We are your diet resource.

Often, the most important thing people want to know when they think the time has come to loose some weight is which diet is the best. Many hope for that miracle diet or pill that melts off the pounds and all they have o do is sit back and watch the results. Unfortunately, it is not that easy. You have to put in some work for any diet or supplement to work. There is no magic bullet.

You can find diet advice everywhere you look, from newsstand magazines to any corner of the internet. The growing epidemic of overweight people has turned the weight loss industry into a behemoth. Anyone can claim to be an expert and give you their advice or sell you something.

There are a LOT of diets out there. Here are a few of the better known.

The Atkins Diet.

Pretty much everyone has heard of the Atkins diet. The biggest thing in favor of this diet is that it lets you eat high fat dairy products like cheese and butter. With Atkins, you basically cut out all carbohydrates from your diet. That leaves you free to eat as much meat, eggs, dairy and veggies as you want while avoiding breads, cereals, pasta, potatoes, etc. Most will lose weight but gain it right back after they go off of this diet.

Next is the Zone diet

This diet is the brainchild of Barry Sears and it iss all about eating the right foods in the right mix in order to reach the proper hormonal balance. He calls this state of balance 'The Zone' and it lets the body take in calories and use them through the day without storing calories as fat. Unfortunately, this diet does some serious restrictions among the allowed foods. Starchy vegetables, whole grains and beans are not allowed. It is kind of a variation of the Atkins, hight protein, low carb but is structured more meticulously.

Jenny Craig

Jenny Craig has been around since the early 1980s and is a pioneer in the diet field. The basic idea of this diet is all things in moderation. You can buy the Jenny Craig prepackaged food. And that runs about $100 per week. And there are the membership costs. Plus the fresh vegetables and fruits which are not included in the prepackaged food.

South Beach

This one is hard work and works.. But you can't really stick to it long term. The first phase of the diet lasts two weeks and will eliminate most foods containing carbohydrates from your daily consumption. The second phase focuses on a gradual return of whole grains and fruits and will last as long as it takes to reach your weight loss goal. It was popular due to quick weight loss, but it is usually temporary.

Weight Watchers.

This is actually one of the best diets around due to all the management tools it gives to the dieter. You have all the information needed to lose weight if you choose to do so. The offer a support group with people going through the same process to help keep you on track. Weight Watchers has a point system where every food you can think of ( even fast food and deserts ) has a point value. You have a preset limit on the points you have each day plus a few extra points for a weekly indulgence. Keep your point total under the daily total and you are good.

As we have shown, there are many diets out there, more than we would ever be able to cover. If interested in a diet, do more research and find out from others if the have had success with it. It is always best to consult a doctor before going on a weight loss mission.
