We are your diet resource.
The dieting world is chock full of myths, soundbites amd hearsay. We have heard them a thousand times and some start to believe it is true. You need to think logically about things. Is it really a good idea to ban sugar completely from your diet? Can you really never eat carbohydrates?
Burn More Calories Than You Consume
The only tried and true way to weight loss is simply burning more calories than you consume. Take your body weight and multiply it by 100. The result is a very general baseline of how many calories your body needs to perform its basic living functions. So if you are 180 pounds your body needs about 1800 calories per day to fulfill its basic functions. This does not include any physical activity. Once you throw in exercise the amount of calories your body burns jumps by a few hundred. Just be sensible about eating and walk around the neighborhood and you will notice a difference.
People should also learn not to put their faith into meal replacements, such as Mypoplex, Slimfast or Eat-Smart. These combinations of low-fat and high-protein substances cannot substitute a proper diet. Nothing can beat fresh fruit and vegetables for your dietary needs. And fresh is key. Imagine how long packaged food is meant to be stored vs how long fresh food stays good in the fridge. Don't you think it is easier for your body to digest fresh foods instead of food-like substances that are meant to never spoil?
Low-Carb, High-Protein
This has been a craze that started with the Atkins diet. In time, this diet leads to weight loss mainly from water stored in the body, not from the burning of fat, and also can strain the internal organs. The reasoning behind this kind of diet is that excess carbohydrates get stored as fat while protein is readily available for the body to use for energy.
Don't be so afraid of potatoes, whole bread and pasta, they are good sources of good carbohydrates. Carbs can actually hep you feel more full and satisfied after a meal. Obviously, stay away from french fried potatoes or sausage and gravy biscuits!
Drinking water every day is a good idea because it keeps the body hydrated and fills the stomach. Water also keeps the intestines healthy by facilitating the movements of undigested food to the exit point. However, you don't lose weight by simply drinking water.
Fat is Absolutely Bad for You? It's not.
On the contrary, the body needs fat in order to get the important fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. Moreover, fat also brings into the body the essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 that cannot be made in the body. The recommended dose of fat is 35 percent of your daily calories. Mind you fat has more calories per gram (9) than protein or carbs (4) so don't picture a dinner plate with a third of it being fat.
Diets and Exercise
Just dieting will not get you very far. To maximize weight loss you must exercise. Remember that a diet that has plenty of fresh food and moderate exercise is by far the safest and most effective way to lose a few extra pounds.
