Losing Fat

Most of us are focused on fat when we diet. We have been told that fat is bad for us since we were kids. Some people worry more about calories than fat. You should be concerned with both of them. You want to be getting your calories for your body from nutrient rich foods. Some fats are essential for your body. As a rule of thumb a gram of fat has twice as many calories as a gram of protein or carbs.

Not all fat is the same.

Some fats are worse than others. Unsaturated fat is better for you than saturated fats. The saturated fats are the ones that cause health problems like high cholesterol and heard disease. Natural occurring fats tend to be better for you, like those in meats and cheeses. On the other hand, things that are deep fried or highly processed are more often bad for your health. Things like donuts, french fries and potato chips are good examples of foods with high saturated fat counts.

Steer clear of saturated fats.

These are the harmful fats. Although it is nearly impossible and definitely unrealistic to cut out all saturated fats, you should still be mindful about what you are putting into your body. Just know that the saturated fats will raise you cholesterol, clog your arteries and put your health in danger.

Unsaturated fat on the other hand is essential for your body. Oils such as olive oil are beneficial to your diet. You should use these when ever you can. It adds great flavor to food and is good for your body. Keep in mind though, everything in moderation. It would not be wise to consume too much of anything.

There are health risks involved with a diet too high in fat.

You are at a much higher risk of heart disease or diabetes. Too much fat really puts your body at risk and add that in with the extra calories being consumed and weight gain then you have a recipe for disaster.

Remember the key is all things in moderation. You don't need to completely cut out fat from your diet, just be smart about the things you are putting into your body.
